The yellow habanero chili pepper is known for its bright yellow color and fruity flavor, making it a popular choice in various dishes. It has a heat level ranging from 100,000 to 350,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), which places it among the hottest peppers in the world. This pepper is often used in hot sauces and can be dried to enhance its heat in culinary applications. It is distinguished from other species by its lantern-shaped fruit.
Growing
Habanero seeds take approximately 10 to 14 days to germinate under optimal conditions. However, various factors can influence this timeline.
Seeds need warmth and moisture for successful germination. Ideally, the temperature should be sustained between 75°F to 85°F (24°C to 29°C). Consistency in temperature can help speed up the germination process. If conditions fluctuate, seeds may take longer to sprout.
Prefers well drained soil that must be kept moist and a sunny position.
When the seedlings are about 15cm high, transplant to their final growing positions in a pot and keep in a warm and light position preferably on a sunny windowsill or greenhouse. Give a nitrogen feed once 2 to 3 chillies have appeared. Harvest in 1up to 20 weeks, from July to October.
Wear gloves when handling chillies and avoid touching your face. Picking your chillies will encourage more to grow
